About Us

Established in 1999, Who Dares Swims is a private swim school operating in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and offers a range of swimming programmes suitable for babies through to mini squads.

Chief instructor and founder Gerry Karsay and her team are dedicated to teaching children of all ages the essential life skill of learning to swim and most importantly instilling a love of being in the water.

Every student is unique and it’s important to us that we focus on their individual needs. We believe that from when a student starts to learn to swim, irrespective of their age, they should be taught in a way that is not only fun, but most importantly leads to an efficient acquisition of swimming skills. At Who Dares Swims we are committed to providing quality, well-planned instruction and advice to ensure that your child reaches their full swimming potential in a controlled, safe and non-threatening environment.

Learning to Float, then to Swim

WDS-SwimClassesOur philosophy within our Early Learn to Swim Classes is based on the principle that unassisted floating is critical to ‘the learn to swim’ process. We do not use floatation aids in any of our classes. Instead children are always assisted and guided by the instructor about the awareness and feel of water.

It is vital that children should learn the feel of their own buoyancy and be able to experience that fun, floating sensation before propulsion is taught. Learning to swim without floatation devices also teaches children a respect for the water.

Technical Tuition

Once children are independent, happy and safe in the water, we broaden our programme to include correct technical tuition. This allows swimmers to develop the key fundamentals that are the building blocks for good technique. This in turn leads to the development of strokes in a controlled, positive and efficient manner. Our ‘hands on’ approach to instructing ensures our philosophy filters through all levels of our learn to swim programme.
