Established in 1999, Who Dares Swims is a private swim school operating in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs
We offer a range of swimming lessons suitable for babies, children, and adults, including specialized swimming programs for students diagnosed with autism, ensuring we have autism swim approval for our methods.
Founder Gerry Karsay and her team are dedicated to teaching infants and children of all ages and abilities the essential life skill of learning to swim while instilling a love of being in the water.
Every student is unique, and it’s important to us to focus on their individual needs. We believe that from the moment a student begins their swimming lessons, regardless of age, they should be taught in a manner that is both fun and leads to the efficient acquisition of swimming skills.
At Who Dares Swims, we are committed to providing quality, well-planned instruction and advice to ensure that your child reaches their full swimming potential in a controlled, safe, and non-threatening environment.
Our Promise
The vital contributing factor to achieving overall learning outcomes in our swimming programs is personable, friendly, and professional instruction. All our swim instructors are highly experienced and dedicated, each understanding the importance of continuity and consistency in a child’s learning path, which is especially crucial for students with autism seeking swim approval.
Our Swim Instructors
All our swim instructors undergo extensive in-house training to ensure unified teaching in our swimming programs at all levels. Gerry works closely with each instructor to support ongoing training and the development of these programs. This training supplements their national Austswim and Swim Australia accreditations. Some instructors hold specialized accreditations in baby/infant swimming, disability swimming, and autism swim approval. Additionally, all our swim instructors maintain current resuscitation qualifications.

Both of our boys spent several years attending Gerry’s amazing swim school, which offers specialized swimming lessons for children, including those with autism swim approval. They had previously been at another well-known venue where it became clear they were only being taught to float rather than truly swim. As a result, they arrived at Gerry’s with several bad habits that needed to be unlearned. However, no challenge is beyond Gerry’s reach, and soon our ‘little bricks’ were transformed into ‘graceful dolphins,’ moving on to become Rep swimmers. More importantly, they have retained their love of the water and often speak fondly of their experience with such an exceptional swim program.

Both my daughters Lili (15) and Jessica Edser (13) began their swimming journey with Gerry when they were young toddlers. Gerry ensured they progressed at their own pace, perfecting each stroke technically before moving on to advanced skills, which laid a strong foundation for their aquatic success. Both girls are now state-qualified swim

Both girls are now state-qualified swimmers, a testament to the quality of the swimming lessons and programs they received. Jessica represented NSW at the School Sports Australia National Championships at ages 10 and 12, winning a silver medal. Her squad coaches have consistently praised her impressive ability to remain streamlined and technical in her backstroke, and she has held state records for backstroke since she was 10. Lili excelled as a top 6 state age breaststroker before transitioning to water polo at age 13. She represented NSW at the Pan Pacs in New Zealand in 2014. We attribute their swimming achievements to the solid foundations built under Gerry's guidance at Who Dares Swims, which also holds autism swim approval, making it accessible for all swimmers.
